Logo History and Design
(This is based on the article that describes the design of the CICAAW logo. It was originally published in the March 2008 CICAAW newsletter.
The CICAAW is celebrating its 20th year as an AAW chapter this year! Congratulations to all the members, both short-timers and long-timers! Unfortunately, in all these years, the CICAAW had never had its own logo, instead just using the national AAW logo instead.
To correct this, James Purciful designed a logo for use by the club in general, and specifically for use in the 2008 AAW Resource Directory where the CICAAW was being mentioned as a 20th anniversary club.
Logo Design/Symbolism
He started with the national AAW logo’s text and shape to keep close to our logo roots, but with a different background color to group the words. Then, he added a silhouette of Indiana as a background to highlight our regional focus. A star identifies Indianapolis. But as a background, Indiana wasn’t very identifiable, so it was moved inside and made to slightly overlap the outer “national AAW” ring.
Then, to further mark central Indiana, he used the “chisel and shaving in a circle” motif from the national AAW logo, so that the inner circle marks out central Indiana. The shaving roughly points at Indianapolis which helps tie it all together.
Being careful to match the letter style of the AAW ring, he added the “Central Indiana Chapter” in an inner ring. The last touch was to remove the 1986 national date and replace it with an inner “1988” CICAAW date.
