Spiral Flute Carving
Submitted by Webmaster on Sat, 09/18/2004 - 18:25.
2004 Al Stirt Demonstration
Al carves the spiral flutes by hand. He uses a structured carbide sleeve on a drum sander type mandrel. He holds this in the Jacob's chuck in the head stock. He found that the morse taper would work loose, so he had the end tapped and puts a long rod through the head stock to hold it securely.
