Most of my turnings are from wood I've collected over the years, a great deal of it from Tasmania, Australia. I followed a timber buyer for six months through the forest coops there salvaging figured timber and he gave me first choice of his gleanings. The woods come from virgin forests that were clear cut for paper pulp, a horrendous practice that has thankfully ceased since I was there. I bought myrtle, Tasmanian blackwood, and eucalypt, all highly figured. I turn mostly bowls, platters and hollow vessels from this wood. I also make a few boxes.
